I can’t dare to make a decision about my future job at this moment. I don’t know about myself enough yet, and we human beings don’t know about how job market and our value will change in the future. So, I want to talk about my future role and goal in a broad perspective rather than about particular job.

At first, my dream was becoming a teacher because teachers are public officer who are paid stably and I have been influenced by my family who are all engaged in teaching. But my parents advised me to search career which I can truly have an interest, and after considering various circumstances I decided to broaden my sight.

Then, I became interested in humanities. Although many students prefer natural sciences to liberal arts, I think that importance of humanities in the future society where ‘advanced technologies lead advancement’ will increase. Recently, agendas about The Fourth Industrial Revolution are discussed actively. And, the number of people who concern that human being’s role will be encroached by AI and algorithm also increase naturally. In these situations, we have to c​ontemplate how human and technology can coexist, what kind of abilities human have and what kind of values we should consider importantly. So, in the sea of technology, humanities can be a compass in all of disciplines. In other words, ‘Thinking of Humanities’ will become a main agenda in every area. It does not mean that we should ignore current stream led by technology. Rather, it means that we should adapt to future.

My concern about career searching also focuses on it. Especially because I am a liberal arts student, now I am thinking about human’s role in my interesting field. For instance, most people might lose their job and they will form a new social class in future. And, meaning of ‘job’ will change from ‘earning money’ to ‘aiming at hobby or self-improvement.’ From the view of economics, debates about Basic Income or fundamental change of an industrial structure will occur in that society. If I major in economics, I will study economical structure which distribute benefits of technology to all people or ways about preventing alienation of human in economic activities. Or, if I major in pedagogy, I will analyze abilities required to future society such as creativity, critical thinking, integrated thinking and ethical insight. Then, I will participate to development of student-oriented educational system which are suitable for manifestation of special talents of people.

Like mentioned examples, my ultimate purposes are to contribute to maintaining human’s value and identity, seeking breakthroughs in existing fields and harmonizing

them with new disciplines, and leading progress of technology into ideal direction. Of course my career searching process is ongoing, and I don’t know where I will be after 10, 20 years. What I know only is that when I become one who always seek ideals and endeavor to improve myself, the future become an opportunity, not a crisis.
